Many HRA members will have very positive memories of local resident Joy Shellard, who lived in Highcliffe since the 1960s, and played such a prominent role in the campaign to save Highcliffe Castle in the 1970s. She subsequently took part as a volunteer in setting up and running the original Highcliffe Castle Tearooms, and was the author of several books on aspects of local history.
Sadly, Joy has recently died at the age of 91. The funeral will be held at St Marks Church on 15th November at 12.30pm, and will be followed by refreshments at the Castle.
Her daughter Pamela says that everyone who remembers Joy will be most welcome to attend the funeral and the subsequent refreshments. There is no need to book - just turn up and help to celebrate Joy's remarkable life and many achievements.
