People gathering for the unofficial opening

Crowds of people turned up on Good Friday to celebrate the unofficial opening of the Zig Zag Path. Despite several key councillors voting against the opening of the Zig Zag Path residents have fought a very successful campaign and now was the time to celebrate.

Led by Bob Hutchings, Nigel Brookes, Ian Nichols and others who worked tirelessly to have the path replaced, the crowds of people congratulated the team behind the campaign and joined them in walking the path. The sun shone and the path which has been replaced for £500,000 less than the original council estimates, thanks to the expertise of local residents, looked amazing and far more secure than its predecessor. Residents with pushchairs and wheelchairs joined the throng to applaud the fact that they can now access the beach from the Castle grounds or vice versa.

Although the structure of the path is complete further planting will be done after the summer by Stewarts Gardenlands and an official opening will take place after the Council elections in May.
